DESCRIPTION:
14K gold and enamel Masonic ring presented to John Lowell Brigham with engraved presentation dated May 10th, 1867, ring size 7; a wonderful piece for the Masonic or Civil War collector. John Lowell Brigham was a cavalry officer on the staff of General Philip Henry Sheridan. He mustered in on 10/1/1861 as a comm Sergeant; shortly thereafter he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on 3/7/1862. On 10/25/1864 he was again promoted to the rank of Captain and finally on 8/28/1865 was promoted to Major by Brevet. He was a 33rd degree Mason of the DeWitt Clinton Consistory No 1 order in Boston. John died in 1874 at the ripe young age of 42; he's buried at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA. Gross weight of ring 5.3 dwt (8.3 g).
